Important agreement from Medical Students’ Association


Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus Has Concluded an Important Agreement… Near East University Faculty of Medicine Students will be Able to Do Internship All Over the World…
Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus (MSANC) has signed a contract with the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), which is one of the largest student-run organizations representing medical students’ associations across the globe. The contract covers terms for sending students to internship exchange programs of IFMSA. Within the frame of the contract signed between parties, medical students from Northern Cyprus will be sent to the internship programs and the internship exchange students will be hosted in our country.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) held the 66th August Meeting General Assembly in Québec in Canada. It was stated that the Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus participated in the event and represented the medical students and our country successfully.

Within the scope of the August Meeting General Assembly, Québec City hosted a fair with Capacity Building Workshops. Parla Ulual, President of the Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus, along with Vice President Arda Atamtürk, who is in charge of foreign affairs, participated in the Presidents’ Pre-General Assembly and made presentations introducing the island of Cyprus and Near East University Hospital. Attracting great attention of many countries, especially the countries of Europe and America, with their presentation, MSANC had the opportunity to sign a contract regarding internship and research exchange program. Within the determined quota and the scope of student exchange program, Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus will not only host 24 medical students from 19 countries for one-month internship but also send medical students from Northern Cyprus to other countries for internship. Students, who will be selected for internship exchange program via an exam, will have the opportunity not only to contribute to their professional developments by receiving both theoretical and practical training at the departments that they prefer but also to get closely acquainted with natural beauties, social and cultural values of different countries. Within the frame of the terms of the contract signed by parties, medical students from Germany, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Morocco, Croatia, Italy, Spain (Catalonia), Sweden, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine will come to our country through internship exchange program.

Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus, which represents more than 2500 medical students and has activities regarding human rights and peace, sexual and reproductive health and public health, has also been carrying out activities to activate the research exchange program under the umbrella of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association. MSANC, which provides opportunities for medical students to improve their knowledge and practices by participating in scientific researches in different countries, aims to be promoted to full membership from candidate status.

Achievements Have Been Shared with NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irfan S. Günsel
Along with NEU vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ and Student Dean Associate Professor Dudu Özkum Yavuz, Parla Ulual, President of the Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus, and Vice President Arda Atamtürk paid a visit to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan S. Günsel in his office and shared their accomplishments.

Delivering a speech during the visit, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel congratulated the Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus for their achievements in paving the way for students towards being well-equipped health professionals, who are capable to meet the requirements of the era.

Touching upon the importance of being a full membership, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel underlined that they, as the university, would provide the support required to become a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations. Günsel also highlighted that it was a proud event to provide the students of the Faculty of Medicine with opportunity to access to all university hospitals across the world.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “As the Administration, We will Continue to Provide Support”
Near East University vice Rector Professor Tamer Şanlıdağ stated that the Medical Students’ Association of Northern Cyprus was accepted as “candidate member” of International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) at the 66th Meeting General Assembly held in August last year. Underlining the significant role of their two-year-lasting efforts in engaging in IFMSA internship exchange program, Professor Şanlıdağ stated that MSANC had a very important mission. “In this Regard, as the administration, we support many projects to be actualized by the MSANC and always act as a mentor in communicating with students” said he.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dudu Özkum Yavuz: “We Support the Activities of the Association which is Both a Scientific and a Social Platform”
Underlining that the Dean of Students had realized many activities in collaboration with student clubs and associations so far, Student Dean Associate Professor Dudu Özkum Yavuz stated that they would continue to support the participation in such meetings.
