4th International Medical Student Congress Completed with the Theme “The Path to the Peak of Health Care”

Organized in collaboration with the Near East University Faculty of Medicine, Student Dean’s Office, and Near East University Medical Students’ Association (NEUMSA), the congress brought together 325 participants through scientific sessions, student oral presentations, debates, and workshops.

A total of 325 participants attended the congress, including students from Near East University as well as students from Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus International University, and Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University. In this respect, the congress served as an important event that brought together medical and health sciences students in Northern Cyprus on a shared academic platform.

Throughout the three-day program, topics such as the role of artificial intelligence in medicine, medical ethics, drug development processes, smart drug delivery systems, exosome technologies, CRISPR/Cas9 applications, robotic surgery, stem cell-based treatment approaches, and disaster medicine were addressed. In addition to invited speaker sessions, 16 student oral presentations were delivered and evaluated by five jury members.

One of the notable academic components of the congress was the debate session held under the theme “Is Euthanasia a Human Right or Not?”. The session supported students in developing ethical reasoning, evidence-based argumentation, critical thinking, and academic discussion skills.

On the final day of the congress, four hands-on workshops were organized to strengthen students’ practical professional skills. The workshops covered laboratory-based biochemical analyses, experimental animal manipulation, perception and cognition-related activities, and first aid in traffic accidents.

During the closing ceremony, successful debate teams and students who ranked in the oral presentation sessions were awarded as part of the Dr. Zeka Mahirel Memorial Award Ceremony. The congress once again highlighted the importance placed by the Near East University Faculty of Medicine on student-centered scientific activities and contributed to the development of future physicians with a strong sense of scientific thinking, ethical awareness, and professional responsibility.
